Whether it is the aesthetic appeal, technical finesse and the resulting watchmaking art or the limited edition of 500 pieces: the 356 FLIEGER Classique Anniversaire model embodies the measurement of time in a very special way – the ideal watch to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this model series in style.
Arrangement of Bicompax circles
Classic chronographs hold a real fascination for watch enthusiasts – perhaps because these time-measuring instruments boast a host of unique features. This is certainly true of our 356 FLIEGER Classic Anniversary model. For this reason, we have enhanced the dial for the first time in this series by inscribing “FLIEGER KLASSIK” at the 6 o’clock position. In return, we have applied the SINN logo at 12 o’clock.
Another new feature that refers to an unusual complication for this series is the Bicompax arrangement of the matte silver-colored counting circles, which blend harmoniously into a balanced whole with a galvanized anthracite dial. The hour, minute, and stop-second hands are rhodium-plated for optical perfection and coated with a luminescent coating, while the small seconds and 30-minute counter literally jump out at you thanks to a silky matte anthracite decor. Another useful feature: we have equipped the dial with a minute track accurate to the quarter of a second for very short time measurements.
Highly domed sapphire crystal
The sapphire crystal, which is anti-reflective on both sides and highly domed, ensures excellent readability of the dial – even in extreme light conditions. What's more, the limited edition indication on the rotor can be seen through the glass case back – also made of sapphire crystal. To truly appreciate the value and quality of this special material, it is important to know that before being carefully polished, the glass undergoes a laborious grinding process involving a solid element approximately 5 mm thick and five different radii of curvature. The result delights all connoisseurs, as the classic appearance is retained after the process.
The jubilee model 356 FLIEGER Klassik is driven by a high-precision mechanism that guarantees a large power reserve of over 56 hours.
Look forward to acquiring an extraordinary time measuring instrument, available in a double case with two straps made of regionally produced boar nubuck leather.
Back to the past
The 356 FLIEGER Classic Anniversary model is a fine example of how every watch – or chronograph – tells a unique story. Indeed, this timepiece also descends from a whole generation of successful watches, those of the 356 series.
It's worth taking a look at the history: at the very beginning, it was a special, exclusive edition of 300 pieces. In 1996, we specially created an elegant, slimmer version of the 256 aviation chronographs without a rotating bezel for the Japanese market: the 356 model with the characteristic "FLIEGER" lettering on a matte black dial, a micro-blasted stainless steel case, and shock-resistant acrylic glass. At the time, this first model was equipped with the Valjoux 7760 hand-wound movement.
A classic and elegant entrance
The great success of this watch on the Japanese market prompted us to reintroduce it to our collection. In 1998, this was achieved: the 356 FLIEGER model – now equipped with an automatic movement, a micro-blasted case, acrylic glass and a solid case back – found the expected response. The fact that it is still one of our most popular chronographs worldwide shows just how timeless this watch is! Moreover, these first chronographs defined the parameters that still make this series so distinctive today: a classic and elegant appearance, and a clear aesthetic presentation that in no way distracts from the essential: form and design are secondary to ensuring good readability of the time and the stops marked by the chronograph.
