In addition, the arrow-tipped UTC hand can be used as a compass, provided you know the position of the sun. If you are in the northern hemisphere, place the dial horizontally and turn the watch so that the 12-hour hand points towards the sun (not adjusted for daylight saving time). The 24-hour hand then points north.
